In order to be able to legally work in Costa Rica foreigners must have a working permit (working visa).
Such visa may be obtained before actually entering Costa Rica by requesting the visa at the nearest
COSTA RICAN CONSULATE or; obtained once the foreigner has entered Costa Rica.
If the petitioner decides to go for the second option, he must submit all paperwork to Immigration within
3 months of his entrance to Costa Rica.
Working permits might be granted for period between 3 to 12 months. Once the permit expires it may be
renewed for an equal period of time.
Working Permit Requirements:

Request letter and request letter issued by the employee.

Request Form (provided by the Immigration General Direction).

Four pictures ("passport size").

Registration of fingerprints before the Public Security Ministry.

Certification of the Costa Rican Social Security, indicating that the
EMPLOYER has NO pending debts on Social Security Payments.

Legal capacity certificate of employer and photocopies of the representative's passport
or I.D. document.

Certified copies of all the pages of the employee's passport. Translation of the passport.

Certified copies of the Titles (or education certificates) of the employee (if applicable).

Employment Contract.

US$ Guarantee Deposit.100

Incorporation on Professional Association (if applicable).
