residency
Foreigners are allowed to live in Costa Rica as permanent or temporary residents. However, most people that have bought property here spend just part of the year in Costa Rica.

They make use of the so-called 90 days visa (which everybody that enters Costa Rica automatically gets in his/her passport), allowing foreigners to stay in Costa Rica for a 3 month period.

After the 90 days it is required to leave the country for at least 72 hours before a new 90 day visa is issued.

Renewal of your visa can be legally established by visiting (e.g.) Panama for 3 nights (72 hours) and than coming back into Costa Rica again.

Please note that even if you have a Costa Rican based corporation, you will still need to renew your 90-day passport visa!

If the time has come that you want to have a more permanent solution for spending time in Costa Rica, you can apply for a residency.
